Biogas typically refers to a gas produced by the breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen. It is a renewable energy source, like solar and wind energy. Furthermore, biogas can be produced from regionally available raw materials and recycled wastes, is environmentally friendly and CO2 neutral.
Biogas is produced by the anaerobic digestion or fermentation of biodegradable materials such as manure, sewage, plant material, and crops.
Biogas comprises primarily methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) .
Biogas production starts from the wet biomass fermentation without oxygen inside of two large pools of about 2500 m3 each (in case of 1 MW power plant), where the bacterium production is guaranteed.
The biogas is purified and transferred to a cogenerator, while the substrate is stocked in a second pool and then brought to farmers as fertilizer.
